MVP Development: How to Launch a Product in 8 Weeks

Most first versions take too long and cost too much because they are not actually minimal. An MVP is not a smaller version of your five-year vision — it is the fastest honest test of your riskiest assumption. Here is the process we use to get founders from idea to launched product in about eight weeks.

Week 0: Cut the scope until it hurts

Write down the one workflow that proves your idea: the loop where a user shows up, gets value and comes back. Everything outside that loop — admin panels beyond the basics, settings pages, secondary user types, native mobile apps — waits for version two.

A useful test: if removing a feature would not change whether your first ten users get value, remove it.

Weeks 1–2: Design the core flow

Wireframe the core workflow end to end, then design the key screens properly. Polish matters more than founders expect — users judge credibility in seconds, and investors judge it faster. But polish the five screens that matter, not twenty-five that do not.

Weeks 3–6: Build with boring technology

The stack that gets you to market fastest in 2026 is unexciting on purpose: Next.js with TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Tailwind CSS, Stripe or Razorpay for payments, deployed on Vercel or Railway. It is fast to build, nearly free to host at MVP scale, and every developer you might hire later already knows it.

  • Use managed services for everything non-core: auth, email, file storage, payments.
  • Ship behind a waitlist or to a small group first — real usage finds problems faster than testing.
  • Weekly demos keep the project honest: working software every Friday, no exceptions.

Weeks 7–8: Launch and instrument

Launch means real users, not a press release: your waitlist, communities where your users already gather, and direct outreach. Instrument the core loop from day one — sign-up conversion, activation, return rate — because the point of an MVP is the learning, and unmeasured learning does not exist.

What an 8-week MVP costs

With a team like ours, a scoped-down MVP typically lands between $5,000 and $20,000 depending on the workflow complexity — payments, real-time features and AI integrations sit at the upper end. That budget buys you a real, polished product in front of real users, with a codebase you own and can grow.
